‘No helmet, no petrol ’rule for two-wheeler riders
Bikers in Andhra Pradesh will not get petrol if they are not wearing helmets as the new rule has come into force in the state to reduce road accident deaths. Chandrababu Naidu implemented the rule in the state and urged petrol pump dealers to cooperate as it is for the safety of two-wheeler riders.
Apart from ordering the officials to conduct a weekly check on the motorists, the minister also sanctioned Rs 10 crore for equipment for effective implementation of the rule. He stressed that road safety rules must be implemented strictly to reduce the number of road accidents in the states.
In a state where a number of deaths have taken place on account of not wearing helmets, this new traffic rule is likely to make a huge difference. The monetary fines imposed on helmetless travelers have been proved to be ineffective in many states as people continue to ride without helmets.
The chief minister advised the officials to geotag the vehicles and urged them to bring awareness to the public on wearing helmets and seat belts. For car drivers, it is a must to wear the seat belts. He also ordered them to remove road encroachments and rectify block-spots on roads.
