Differently abled people will now be able to travel conveniently...
To ensure convenient journey for the differently abled people, Indian Railways will introduce fixed quota for ‘Divyangs’ in third AC coaches of mail and express trains. Now they won’t face any problem in getting the lower berth in those coaches.
Until now there is provision for them for lower berth quota in sleeper class only. A senior Railway Minister official confirmed about the reservation and stated that the required software id getting ready for the same. The following step was taken by the Indian Railways after this incident when a wheelchair bound athlete faced problems in securing the lower berth. Subarna Raj, the medal winning para-athlete was allotted an upper berth. She further faced problems in getting the lower berth in the Nagpur- Nizamuddin Garib Rath Express and had to sleep on the floor of the train.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had called for the inquiry in the case. He also ordered various measures so that such incident doesn’t happen again. The Railways will make an official announcement about the reservation in this week.
Further changes have been brought about at the stations for making it accessible for differently abled people. For visually impaired passengers, coaches will carry signage in braille.
