Punjab government fulfills its poll promise, makes education for girls free.
Punjab government has announced 100 percent free education to girls from nursery to Ph.D. in government schools and colleges. This is a major step of Punjab government towards women empowerment.
With this Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has fulfilled his poll promise. Reservation for women in Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies has been increased to 50 percent from 33 percent. The Chief Minister also announced Nursery and Lower KG classes in government schools from next academic session along with free textbooks for students. He also announced free Wi-Fi services to 13,000 primary schools and to all 48 government schools. He also announced a project for promoting the English language in government schools.
Apart from the educational reforms, the government had announced many social welfare reforms and initiatives in past three months. Also, schemes for free houses for homeless and low-cost housing for economically backward classes are announced to be launched in 2017-2018.
The Punjab government has shown successful stand in the drug war as per the facts and figures. The Chief Minister stated that the oppositions also must join hands and work collectively against the drug menace. A stringent warning has been given to drug dealers to stop their work or face adverse consequences.
