School children have a reason to rejoice

The students of a government school in Sikar district of Rajasthan will soon have a playground to play, thanks to a humble jeep driver who donated five bighas of land to the school.

30-year-old Major Ali, a father of two, who barely earns a few thousand rupees a month was generous enough to donate five out of 14 bighas of his ancestral land for the playground of a government secondary school in Lawanda village in Sikar.

Ali could donate his land to the school after he was able to convince his five brothers for this noble cause. From this academic session, students can avail of the playground facility.

Last year, the school was upgraded from upper primary to secondary level. A retired school principal, Heeralal Meghwal donated 3.75 bighas of land which is near the playground for the construction of a new building.

At a state-level function, Ali was felicitated by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje along with 109 donors for their contribution to the society.

Ali said that he could have used the donated land which is worth 30 lakhs for farming, but he feels proud that he could donate the land to the school.

He is making ends meet with the paltry Rs 7-8,000 a month that he earns as a driver, yet he wasted no time to donate the land when he was motivated by the school headmaster.
