DigiYatra may soon come up with a new digital experience for travellers by making them mandatory to give their unique ID while booking air tickets.
As of now, identity cards were required only while entering the airport. But the government is now thinking of introducing the usage of unique identification number during flight ticket bookings as well.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said that the ministry plans the introduction of digital unique identification for booking air tickets. It is the best way of securing unique identification and would make the journey of travellers free of all the pen and paper formalities and more convenient for them. This announcement by the minister was made at the press conference on DigiYatra. DigiYatra aims at developing digital experiences for travellers in their flight journey making it seamless.
The central idea is that once a passenger has booked his ticket by providing his unique ID, the identification number along with the passenger name record (PNR) will provide all the information of the traveller and will also act as a digital boarding pass. A technical committee of industry stakeholders will negotiate and provide suggestions within 30 days for implementing the scheme.
However, the government has still kept the option of the conventional method which is now being followed if the traveller doesn’t seem to avail the digital scheme.
