500 in Kerala and 200 fishermen in Kanyakumari will have navigation systems.
Working towards Narendra Modi's initiative to provide solutions obtained through satellite technology, ISRO chairman K Sivan has come up with a solution for the fisherman.
At a felicitation function in his native Sarakkal Vilai village in Kanyakumari district, Sivan said 42 Indian satellites are in space and at least 45 more were needed.
His efforts are towards launching more satellites is to help the common man. According to him, satellite technology can not only be used to identify water spots but also trace Naxalites.
Providing fishermen with navigation systems will help them spot fishing spots and give their location to avoid territorial waters. The app will give information in their native language.
