India will have a first railway station, Habibganj to be privately operated by Bansal group.
Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) has given Bansal group the contract to renovate Habibganj station in Bhopal making it the first railway station under private-public partnership as per international standards.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will inaugurate the renovation work of Habibganj station today. The station will be renovated to have eateries, shopping malls, restaurants, parking lots etc. It will be powered by solar energy and will have special amenities for physically challenged people. The new design of the station would be in such a way that in emergencies, people can vacate the place within four minutes. The contract of railways with the local Bansal group to rebuild, maintain and operate the station is for eight years.
For renovation, the investment is of Rs. 100 crore and additional land will be revamped into commercial space making a budget of Rs. 350 crore. The additional four land parcels have been given to the company on lease for a period of 45 years. The complete area thus becomes 17,245 square meters.
As per reports, the other stations in IRSDC’s list for revamping are Anand Vihar, Brijwasan, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar and Shivaji Nagar station in Pune.
