India is second largest supplier in the world
With total sales of over USD 800 million, India has become one of the top supplier of health products to the UN system in 2016.
Since 2012, India is the second largest country to supply goods and servics to the UN and it has maintained this position till the current year. This was revealed by the total procurement of goods and services for operational activities of the UN system.
India being the leading global provider of generic drugs, pharmaceuticals continues to be the main procurement category for India.
Since 2010, India is a top ten supplier country and in 2016, India’s supplies amounted to 6% of procurements by the UN.
Apart from its contribution to the health sector, India also supplies food, medical equipment and renders management services.
Procurement of goods and services from India were primarily by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Food Programme (WFP.
Other than India, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey are the two developing nations that figure in the top 10 major countries supplying goods and services to the UN organizations. The joint procurement from these three nations amounted to USD 2.58 billion which accounted for 32.7 per cent of the top ten countries total procurement.
