Sculpture park will showcase works of Indian and international artists
India’s first sculpture park showcasing some cutting-edge contemporary art is all set to come in the historical city of Jaipur. It will be hosted in the 18-century Nahargarh Fort and works of Indian as well as international artists will be exhibited.
The park is set to open on December 10. The Rajasthan government has partnered with Saat Saath Arts, a non-profit foundation and corporate sponsors to transform Madhavendra Palace inside Nahargarh into an art gallery.
With this move, the Rajasthan government has put the state on the global cultural map. Well known artists like Subodh Gupta, Jitish Kallat, Thukral & Tagra, and Bharti Kher will participate in the exhibition. The curator of the exhibition Peter Nagy said that he had selected some artists who worked with everyday domestic objects. For instance, Jitish Kallat's Annexation, which is an oversized kerosene stove, is one of the works that will be part of the year-long show.
Malvika Singh, full-time member of the chief minister's Advisory Council (CMAC) stated that the park is a "unique experiment" and will attract more tourists to Rajasthan. Jaipur is already a popular state of Rajasthan that draws a large number of travelers who come to visit its beautiful palaces and monuments as well as shop for exquisite products. It hosts an annual literature festival and several musical events. Now, this beautiful state will woo art visitors as well.
