Karnataka government launched Bengaluru city logo
Bengaluru has become the first city in India to get its own logo. The Karnataka government launched Bengaluru city logo in a bid to resurrect its image as a tourist destination.
Bengaluru now joins New York, Paris, Berlin, London, Melbourne, Singapore and other global cities in having its own tourism logo. The Karnataka government earlier held a contest to design the logo which carried a prize money of Rs 5 lakh. It was won by Nammur, a design start-up that created the logo.
The idea to come up with the logo was that of state tourism minister, Priyank Kharge who said that the city was a brand in terms of investment, but not so for tourism. The logo will promote Bengaluru as a brand to attract tourists and portray the rich history and culture of the city as well as showcase its cosmopolitan nature.
Kharge explained that ‘Be’ and ‘U’ in Bengaluru are highlighted in red. “This represents the welcoming character of the city, where people of all identities will be respected."
Nammur’s Vinod Kumar said that the logo was designed to incorporate the city's rich cultural heritage and yet show how it is changing. With this aim, some of the English letters have been designed to look similar to characters in the Kannada script. He added that the logo was also designed to subconsciously teach Kannada.
