Internet users by 2021 will account for 59 percent of India's population.
India is witnessing huge digital transformation as reports state that the internet users will increase up to 829 million users till 2021 from 373 million users from 2016.
This means more than 50 percent of the Indian population will be using the internet in 2021, with over 2 billion devices networked with each other. Increased data speed, higher bandwidth, increased dependencies on online data has attributed to the acceptance of internet so fast. Also, the shift in online transactions with government shifting to digitalisation schemes has led to a wider increase in a number of internet users. The introduction of 5G will be soon.
IP traffic and overall traffic growth are immense and video dominates the internet usage. Statistics say that India will rise to 84 billion Internet video minutes per month by 2021, which accounts for usage of about thirty-two thousand video minutes every second.
Development in Internet of Things (IoT) applications such as smart meters, health monitoring devices, high tech mobile to mobile services will speed up the usage in future. These will account for 22 percent of the 2 billion networked devices. This count will never drop as everything is becoming online and internet dependency is rising.
