Karnataka's Neelamani N Raju is the first woman DGP in the history of the state police department. She is a 1983-batch IPS officer and the highest ranking officer in the state.
Raju, born on January 17, 1960 is from Roorkee in Uttarakhand who serves as the Joint Director of Intelligence Bureau in the Union Home Ministry for 23 years and is expected to retire in January 2020.
Earlier she was working with the Bangalore Rural SP and later on moved to the Central Services in 1993 and returned Karnataka last year. In May 2016, she started working as Director General of Police (Internal Security Division) since then.
She is a wife of former IAS officer Narasimha Raju, who was secretary to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah before his retirement last year.
Raju as Karnataka's first woman DGP deserves the post based on her calibre and seniority.
