More 30 cities are added to the list of Smart Cities Mission
On Friday, Centre announced the inclusion of 30 more cities in the list of Smart Cities cMission totalling the grand total to 90 now! Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu announced an investment amounting to Rs. 57,393 crore.
From the chosen cities, Thiruvananthapuram topped the list. Others in the list are as follows- Naya Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Rajkot, Amravati in Andhra Pradesh, Patna in Bihar, Muzaffarpur in Bihar, Puducherry, Gandhinagar in Gujarat, Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, Karnal in Haryana, Satna in Madhya Pradesh, Bengaluru in Karnataka, Karimnagar in Telangana, Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Tirupur in Tamil Nadu, Pimpri Chinchwad in Maharashtra, Bilaspur, Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu, Dahod in Gujarat; Tirunelveli, Thootukkudi and Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu; Aizawl in Mizoram; Allahabad, Jhansi and Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and Gangtok in Sikkim. Out of the above list, many cities had suggested many housing projects, new schools, hospitals and also the development of transport systems.
The Centre has to round up the count of the Smart Cities to 100. As of now 90 are selected. For the next 10, there are some more 20 cities across the country that have to compete.
