Langar will be made with solar energy for the devotees
Making a call to reduce air pollution, the famous Golden Temple of Amritsar has taken its step forward by now on making their famous ‘Langar’ for their devotees with solar power.
The ‘Langar’ is being made at the Guru Ram Das Langar Hall (community kitchen) at the Golden Temple using liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and wooden sticks as fuels. This noble initiative has been volunteered by a Mumbai-based private company named Enpar Group. The company will donate the temple with solar energy through the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA).The entire set up will be in the newly constructed ‘Langar Hall’. The steam generated from the system will be used for cooking. A team has already visited the temple to look for the location of system’s installation. Also, PEDA is contributing the idea by subsidizing the project.
The new system will not only reduce the air pollution rate in the area significantly but also help in faster cooking of food. The idea of preparing food from steam has already been implemented at Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj shrine which is near the Golden temple. But the steam production there isn’t using solar energy.
Also, organic farming has started at Gurdwara Satlani Sahib for providing vegetables and foodgrains for ‘Langar’ preparation.
