A programme to educate all!
The Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority (KSLMA) will launch a literacy programme aiming to literate about one lakh people within a year.
As per the last census, the state reported about 18 lakh illiterates. To ensure the accuracy of the report, a comprehensive literacy survey has to be conducted in all panchayats. A preliminary survey has started in one of the panchayats. The programme was announced at a workshop for local body heads and standing committee chairpersons on Monday. The workshop was inaugurated by district panchayat president K.V. Sumesh and panchayat vice president P.P. Divya presided it.
People had interrogated the relevance of Preraks- resource people. They both criticized and appreciated the hike in fee of the Preraks. KSLMA Director P.S. Sreekekha said that the Preraks have a major role in their public education protection programme. About 2000 Preraks will be deployed to serve 25 learners.
Pledging for equal rights of education, the literacy programme will also take place for migrant workers and transgender people.
