The two days long 9th BRICS Summit was held from 3-5 September 2017 at Xiamen, China. Many commitments and suggestions came up in the summit.
The summit had leaders of five nations participating- Michel Temer (President of Brazil), Vladimir Putin (President of Russia), Narendra Modi (Prime Minister of India), Xi Jinping (President of China) and Jacob Zuma (President of South Africa).
At the summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made certain suggestions for commitments that they should make collectively for global transformation. Promoting the notion of collective effort and inclusive growth, Mr. Modi proposed creating a better and safer world by collective actions on counter-terrorism, cyber security and disaster management. Another call was on making a greener world by countering climate change with initiatives like India’s International Solar Alliance. Further to improve efficiency, effectiveness and strengthen the economy, we must focus on sharing and deploying suitable technologies. Carrying the vision of a digital economic and financial system, Mr. Modi stressed over economic mainstreaming of people by banking and financial systems and reducing the digital divide between economies. Mr. Modi also envisaged creating a skilled world for youths.
Mr. Modi and Mr. Jinping also discussed the border issue at Doklam which comes a week after resolution between the two nations.
