What's different about this semi-high speed train?
The Indian Railway Ministry is planning to reduce the strenuous nine hours journey between Nagpur and Hyderabad to just three hours!
The Ministry is in the negotiation phase and has made a blueprint for the same. A joint feasibility and implementation study have been started by the Indian Railways with the Russian Railways. The report of this will later to the Railway Board for approval.
The main idea behind this rail route is the unavailability of direct connecting flight between the two cities. There is a flight with a stopover but that takes over four hours. Currently, there are trains connecting these cities that run at an average speed of 60 kilometers per hour and take time of minimum 9 hours. The new plan will have trains running at a speed of 160-200 kilometer per hour to cover the 584-kilometer stretch in 3 hours! The tracks will be strengthened and suitable fencing off the route will be done.
This train will be a semi high speed train with the maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hour. There are also talks on another such semi high speed route between Delhi and Chandigarh. This route will be planned with the help of France.
