Lab results can be intimated on the phone...
The Medical College Hospital at Thiruvananthapuram has introduced the picture archiving and communication (PACS) system, mobile app and SMS service which enables doctors and patients to access lab results with just a click.
The PACS system enables the doctor to directly access the soft copy of the X-ray, CT scan and MRI scan on the doctor’s computer. Thus, the hassle of collecting the results from the lab and submitting it to the doctor can be done away with.
In the first phase of implementation, the PACS system will be made available to the casualty sections for orthopaedics, surgery and medicine.
Not only doctors, but patients and bystanders can also directly access the lab results in their mobile phones through the mobile app and the SMS service. While giving the sample, the patient has to provide his mobile number, so that as soon as the result is out, he/she can be intimated on the phone.
There are plans to upgrade the facilities of the computer in the wards so that the patients and doctors can access the test results when the OP number and other details of the patient are entered.
