India is shifting from brain drain to brain gain by witnessing an increasing number of NRI scientists coming back to India.
Here is something quite positive and progressive for India as we can see a major shift in India from brain drain to brain gain. In past two-three years, about thousand non-resident Indian (NRI) scientists have returned back to India as they can find more opportunities in India now.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences mentioned the changing situations in India. He said that many NRIs are finding progressive choices in India that are attracting them back to India. Many scholarships and fellowships are encouraging the scientists to come back to India. On asking Dr. Vardhan that the schemes were introduced long before, he said though they were introduced long back, the impact is being noticed only now. The scientists were looking for a better, long-term opportunity to come back to India and are noticing them now that has increased the count.
The Department of Science and Technology is ready to roll out a scheme that will attract scientists on a long term basis. The scheme called ‘Visiting Advanced Joint Research Faculty scheme’ will provide a maximum of three month research work every year before granting them the position of adjunct faculty in Indian Institutes.
Before accepting the NRIs returning, they are put through an evaluation process.
