Government working on the online passport service verification portal!
Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said that the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) will be linked to the passport service for their online verification.
This will very well reduce the time required in the verification process. This will simplify the process by avoiding the frequent visits and the physical movements of the required documents making it convenient for interstate verifications. The CCTNS database of crimes and criminals and links 14,284 police stations out of the total 15,398 across the country. The government is also planning to link criminal justice systems like courts, forensic labs, fingerprints, prisons and police with the CCTNS database.
Under the new online working system, police officers will be given handheld devices to which they will go to an applicant’s place and quickly upload his or her relevant details into the network. There will be restricted access enabled to law enforcement agencies on verifications.
Earlier under CCTNS, an online digital portal was started to register FIR’s online. Out of the total states and union territories, that is a count of 36, about 35 share CCTNS database that has about seven crore records and 2.5 crore FIR’s!
