Only Indian made mobile phones to government officials.
The Indian government is planning a secure communication for its workers especially for those in the defence sector.
The first proposal in this way is to use phone manufactured only by Indian companies. Also, a strongly secured email service will be provided to government officials. The idea came for the security of important crucial data from foreign countries. Many companies have user data saved onto their server in their parent country like Chinese companies will have a server there. So they might have easy access to vital crucial data of government departments.
As of now, the army is using secured landline services for communication. The following proposal about indigenous mobile phones came up in a meeting by Minister for Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad along with senior officials of the department. The officials said they are already working on the data security and protection and especially for vital government departments like defence.
Firstly, the government will gather all information and details about the data security processes followed by mobile manufacturers selling their smartphones in India. While the details will be worked upon, the government might ask the companies supplying phones to government officials to change certain features and abide by certain new specifications that the government will specify. Government is working on a centralised email architecture. Currently, the domain is @gov.in. The government will introduce more local languages and sarkar.bharat domain.
A pilot project has already started and is working for a particular set of officials.
