Right from English to general knowledge, the students are learning everything from Alexa
The students of a municipal school in Waruda, Maharashtra got their third teacher who is not a regular person but, Amazon’s, Alexa. The school has a number of 48 students who were only taught by Amol Bhuyar and headmistress Sushma Kapse. And with the addition of the new staff member, the teaching sessions are certainly going to be exhilarating for the children.
The virtual assistant has been given a face and is built into a robot which looks like a woman. Since the school’s medium of language is Marathi, the children are learning English along with general knowledge, math, poem and everything associated with their syllabus from Alexa. It also plays Bollywood music as it’s a part of extracurricular activities. The speed of the internet is definitely a matter of concern in villages but, the authorities of the school have not let that affect their initiative. Mr. Bhuyar even stated that now they allow their students to continue with the classes outside their classrooms as the signal gets interrupted indoors.
Mr. Bhuyar spoke about the day he thought of using technology for his students as he told The Hindu: “It was during a ‘go digital drive’ by the Amravati municipality in its schools that I had this brainwave of trying to push boundaries using technology.”
The students ask 15 questions to Alexa every day which has made them more confident. And now they don’t hesitate while asking the questions, their urge of knowing things have doubled.
What’s more satisfying than witnessing children enjoying education? Hats off to Amol Bhuyar and Sushma Kapse for coming up with such a commendable initiative.
