If all goes well then Pune will soon have its own Dilli Haat known as Kalagram at Pu La Deshpande Udyan, Sinhgad Road.
Five years before a proposal was sent to civic body and now the work for the same has been progressed for its third phase. This Garden is known as Pune-Okayama Friendship Garden but is popularly known as Pu La Deshpande Udyan. True to its meaning Kalagram that means art village will have shopping stalls of traditional crafts from various states in the country. It will have 28 stalls representing each state. As per a report published in The Times of India, Pune Municipal Corporation garden superintendent Ashok Ghorpade said, “Every stall will have artisans, representing the state, displaying and selling popular art forms and handicrafts. This way, citizens will be able to access the art forms in a single place throughout the year.”
along with the shopping stalls, there will be an open-air auditorium with capacity of 200 audience and there will be regular performing arts recital.
"Regular dance recitals and performance arts events will be hosted at the auditorium. This will not only promote the performance artists but also popularise their art forms among residents," Ghorpade said. The project will take at least two years to be completed and take a beautiful face of Kalagram.
“The original plan had been proposed over five years ago. It was allocated funds only in this year's PMC budget. Even with the approval for funds, it will take at least a month for building and plan approval, following which the project will take another two years to complete,” said Ghorpade.
