Do you know why we get hiccups?

To answer the above question, it is necessary to know what are hiccups. Hiccups occur due to an ineffective intake of air. The involuntary contraction of the larynx and the glottis effectively obstructs easy breathing in. They might occur due to temperature changes and overwhelmed emotions. Hiccups can be prolonged or short-lived. Prolonged hiccups might indicate serious problems in brain, spinal cord or in the areas around the diaphragm.  Short lived hiccups occur when we eat or drink too fast. The stomach below expands and disturbs the diaphragm. Thus the diaphragm contracts as if it tries to breathe in.

Do you know why armpits’ sweat smell worse than other body parts?

Sweat than human body releases is basically odourless. What gives the unpleasant smell is the bacteria on our skin and what they do. The bacteria on our skin multiply rapid in presence of sweat and break down sweat into acid that gives the unpleasant odour. The sweat in the armpits, groins and some more parts have this odour. There are two types of sweat glands-eccrine and apocrine. The eccrine glands are present in all major parts of our body skin. It helps in maintaining body temperature. It produces sweat on the skin whose evaporation cools down the body. Apocrine glands in the skin and eyelids create sweat. They are present in the armpits and groins. The sweat produced by these glands are high in protein and produce an oily secretion that when broken down by the bacteria, give the unpleasant.

Do you know why stomach growls?

Everyone must have experienced the awkward moment during school lectures when your stomach starts growling. It feels as if the sound is coming from the throat but it actually from the stomach and the small intestine. People think that growling indicates that one is hungry. But your stomach doesn’t growl only when hungry! The stomach churns the food you eat. The process is continuous. You don’t listen to the sound when your stomach is full. But when the stomach gets empty, the churning sound becomes more audible. The gas and air pockets make more noise when the stomach is empty. This is what people consider as a sign of hunger.
