  • Ratna Sundar Maharaj is a Jain monk, activist and a Gujarati writer who is well known for his lectures on spirituality and social issues. 
He has written more than 315 books on a variety of subjects and holds the Golden Book of World Records for more than 300 books in a single language(Gujarati).

  • The Indian Astronomical Observatory is the second highest observatory in the world which is perched at almost 15,000 feet at Hanle in Ladakh. 
It houses the 2m class Chandra telescope and is remotely operated by the astronomers from Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) in Bangalore.
The clear cloudless skies throughout the year and very little artificial light are conducive to excellent output from this observatory which has made Indian scientists proud.


  • The Maitreya Buddha is a very tall, impressive statue measuring 32 metres in height and is widely appreciated for its architecture.
Facing the Shyok river, the mighty Buddha is surmounted atop a monastery in the  Nubra valley in Ladakh. 
Gold to be used in the construction of the statue was donated by the heads of other major monasteries. It was constructed in 2006 to promote peace and protection in the region.
