  • Sikkim has become India’s first fully organic state since 2015 December i.e. there is no usage of chemicals and fertilizers on its approximate 75,000 hectares of agricultural land.
Sikkim’s organic mission was started in 2003 by the then Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Kumar Chamling. The government thereafter banned pesticides and chemical fertilizers in the state, distributed seeds and plant-based manure, provided training on organic agricultural methods to farmers.
Today, there is a huge demand for Sikkim’s organic produce in Indian and International market.

  • Amartya Sen was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1998 for his work in the field of welfare economics. He is the sixth Indian to receive this honour. 
Born in West Bengal, he was named by nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. He completed his education in Economics, Mathematics & Philosophy from known institutions like Cambridge, Santiniketan, Calcutta University. 
Sen was known as “Mother Teresa of Economics” for his work on upliftment of socially backward societies.
Sen has authored 20 books till date. He was honoured with Bharat Ratna in 1999.

  • VA Shiva Ayyadurai, the inventor of EMAIL, was born in 1963, to a Tamil family in Mumbai. He pursued education in diverse subjects from United States like electrical engineering, scientific visualization, systems biology etc.
 In 1979, at the age of 14, he began his work on Email systems for University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He worked to convert the interoffice mail system into an electronic format.
The Smithsonian National Museum of American History recognizes today that Shiva indeed submitted codes and documents related to Email. Shiva copyrighted his software ‘EMAIL’ in 1982.
